Trump Trashes Cyber-Censorship of Conservatives: ‘Let Everyone Participate’
“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices. Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen.”
–President Donald Trump
President Donald Trump took to his Twitter Saturday (8/18) slamming tech giants and social media platforms over a growing wave of silenced conservative voices and mass censorship that at one time included a ‘shadow banning’ of the Twitter accounts of every Republican in Congress.
In a series of tweets, Trump hammered the world’s largest digital platforms, facebook, Google, Twitter and Youtube, over their throttling of conservative political thought and of outright bans on conservative media figures like Alex Jones and Stephan Molyneux, while calling out MSM sources for being the worst of the worst of fake news, clearly undercutting criticisms of independent journalism sources like InfoWars which liberal mainstream outlets marginalize as ‘”fake news.”
The war over censorship and the back and forth between social media giants, Congress and the Trump administration has had demonstrable financial impacts on the value of companies like facebook, which earlier this month posted the largest single day drop in company valuation, losing $150-billion in just a few hours after revealing in a quarterly earnings conference call that projected earnings for the next several quarters were expected to drop considerably due to the controversy over user agreements, censoring of content and the selling of user’s private information to third parties for profit.
During his daily broadcasts in recent weeks, embattled conservative host Alex Jones, whose InfoWars network has now been banned, delisted and purged from multiple streaming services, social media outlets and even server companies, made an open call for help to President Trump and Congress to set clear guidelines on equal access to social media distribution which comprise the largest companies in world history. It’s unclear at the moment what Jones expects can be done and what if anything Trump and Congress can legally do to intervene in private enterprise regarding requirements of equal treatment on ideological grounds.
Previously, President Trump has been harshly critical of tech giants facebook and Twitter for throttling distribution of conservative political content, including status updates and individual tweets on the basis of political ideology, while leaving leftist voices unmolested and given full distribution via algorithm. When Trump received confirmation that every Republican member of Congress had been under a ‘shadow ban,’ meaning that their Twitter accounts had effectively been silenced and limited and even blocked from search results, Trump lashed out publicly, calling the practice illegal.
Critics of the big tech purge say it’s indisputable that the leftist controlled corporations are hoping to blunt dissemination of conservative viewpoint and opinion ahead of the critical 2018 midterm elections in November.
“Censorship is a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police. If you are weeding out Fake News, there is nothing so Fake as CNN & MSNBC, & yet I do not ask that their sick behavior be removed.”
–President Donald Trump
