Supported Mask Mandates: Amy Coney Barrett At Odds With Trump’s Base on Masks, But Do They Know It?
President Trump’s tapping of Amy Coney Barrett for the United States Supreme Court was less suspenseful than a Star Wars prequel. But could she be both a more difficult confirmation and a less dependably Constitutional jurist than Barbara Lagoa?
It will be an interesting thing watching President Donald Trump’s virulent antimask base rally vehemently in favor of a Supreme Court nominee who sided squarely with the State of Illinois mask mandate, reinforcing the government’s ability to infringe on personal freedom and criminalizing anyone who might dissent. Yes. Amy Coney Barrett did that.
Even a thumbnail background on Amy Coney Barrett shows a justice with a long history of authoritarian tendencies whose one saving dependable conservative position is the protection of unborn human life. Irony is, her outlandish statements concerning “consulting with the Pope,” before rendering a ruling, etc., make her simultaneously a far tougher nomination vehicle for confirmation (especially under duress) and yet a far lesser friend to the Constitution than 11th Circuit Justice, Barbara Lagoa, who is every bit Coney Barret’s equal in defense of the unborn, but has also consistently shown the courage to subject the Deep State’s favorite players to the rule of law.
The Left will attempt to destroy any high court candidate nominated by Trump. Water wet, sky blue. One should not however, under any circumstances mistake that intensity of opposition as tacit endorsement of conservative bona fides or Constitutional fitness.
They would have had a far greater optical challenge in a shortened timeframe attacking a Latina survivor of Castro’s Cuba whose understanding of the horrors of an authoritarian state should be a far greater comfort to conservatives than Coney Barrett’s embrace of a Vatican autocracy that under Pope Francis, has become the most effective mouthpiece for Marxism and “Social Justice” on the planet. And I write this as a practicing Catholic.
Just one more of a million reasons to hope Trump wins this election, allowing national treasure Clarence Thomas his well deserved and promised retirement, accompanied by Lagoa’s subsequent addition to the High Court where she belongs.
